Lactium®: recognized benefits

What is Lactium®?

Lactium® is a unique milk protein hydrolysate, containing a bioactive decapeptide called alpha-casozepine. This decapeptide acts on the brain’s GABAa receptors to reduce the perception of stress in dogs and cats. Lactium® is natural and has no side effects or toxicity for the body.

The benefits of Lactium® for animals

As in humans, stress is an ever-present factor in the lives of our pets. Lactium® can help them on several levels :

  • Reducing anxiety :

Pets often feel anxious about changes in their environment, such as changes in their environment, moving house, the arrival of a new family member or travel. Lactium® helps calm pets during these stressful periods.

Managing your pet’s anxiety from the very first symptoms helps avoid stress escalation, or even his deteriorating into helplessness or depression.

  • Mood stabilization :

Stress can lead to undesirable behaviors in animals, such as destructive actions, excessive barking or inappropriate elimination. Lactium® helps to alleviate these behaviors by calming the animal, making it more manageable and better integrated.

  • General health support :

Stress can impact an unsuspected number of health spheres in our animals. As in humans, the immune system of animals can be weakened by stress. The digestive system can be disrupted: your pet may experience loss of appetite or gastrointestinal problems, for example. Stress can also lead to dermatological problems (licking sores, alopecia) or urinary problems (feline idiopathic cystitis).

The relaxing effects of Lactium® gently curb these multiple discomforts at their source.

In doubt, do not hesitate to consult your veterinarian, who is the only person able to confirm whether your pet’s discomfort is stress-related, or if the underlying cause springs from another pathology.

Clinical studies on the benefits of Lactium® for animals

The effectiveness of Lactium® has been clinically proven:

Anxiety reduction: behavior score*

A clinical study was conducted on 34 cats previously diagnosed as stressed and separated into two groups. For 56 days, one group consumed Lactium® in capsule form at a dose of 15mg/kg/day, when the other group had a placebo. A veterinarian compared the results of behavioral scores before and after supplementation.

  • This study showed a significant reduction in anxiety with Lactium®.

Anxiety reduction: Lactium® VS anxiolytic*

A clinical study was carried out on 38 dogs previously diagnosed and separated into two groups. For 56 days, one group consumed Lactium® in capsule form at a dose of 15mg/kg/day and the other group, an anxiolytic. A veterinarian compared the results of behavioral scores before and after the study.

  • This study demonstrated that Lactium® helped reduce anxiety symptoms.

Decreased cortisol production: Canine Behavior Research and

Canine Behavior Assessment and Research Questionnaire (C-BARQ)** score

A study was carried out on 28 dogs over a 17-week period: for the first 8 weeks, the dogs were fed kibbles containing Lactium® (20mg/kg/day) and L-tryptophan. For one week, they were allowed to resume their eating habits. Finally, for the last 8 weeks, the dogs were given

placebo kibble. Urine tests were used to measure cortisol (stress hormone) levels in the dogs at each phase of the study.

  • This study demonstrated a significant decrease in cortisol levels compared with the control group, and consequently stress levels, in dogs receiving Lactium®.

Reduction in the recurrence of feline idiopathic cystitis***

Idiopathic cystitis in cats has no known cause, but it has been observed that stress reduction reduces the recurrence of its episodes.

A study was carried out on 31 cats suffering from recurrent idiopathic cystitis, separated into two groups, over an observation period of 5 weeks. One group consumed Lactium® and L-tryptophan-based kibbles, while the other group received a placebo food.

  • This study demonstrated that Lactium® helps to reduce the recurrence of cystitis by reducing the stress component of this illness.
